If the ASW and GP/medical practitioner agree that the criteria are not met or if the ASW considers that the application ought not be made, both professionals should consider, if possible in consultation with the individual, their family/carers and other professionals, other supports/interventions that
could be put in place to meet the person's needs.

The Code 2.28 advises that any alternative plan should identify a named professional who will have responsibility for ensuring its implementation. It should be recorded in writing and copies made available to all those who need them, subject to the needs of confidentiality.
